Excited to share the progression of Pokeye robot in WP2 of the DISCOVER project: an autonomous, AI-powered drilling platform that identifies building materials in real-time with exceptional industrial accuracy.
What does it do? Pokeye autonomously drills into building components, collects material samples, and instantly classifies them using three synchronized sensing technologies:
- XRF for elemental composition
- NIR for molecular fingerprinting
- RGB for visual/texture analysis
Why does it matter? In demolition and deconstruction, knowing what you’re working with changes everything:
✅ Enables surgical, selective demolition instead of mass destruction
✅ Maximizes material recovery for reuse and recycling
✅ Supports data-driven decisions for circular construction
✅ Reduces waste going to landfills
Our multimodal drilling AI platform detects and identifies a wide range of structural building materials; from concrete and ceramics to polymers, metals, wood, and other minerals directly on-site in seconds.
This technology is being developed for deployment on mobile robotic platforms, bringing intelligent material discovery to the field. One step closer to making buildings a material bank rather than a waste stream.
Huge thanks to the DISCOVER consortium, TU Delft team, and EU Horizon Europe for supporting this journey toward a more circular built environment.
