The DISCOVER team met in Athens, Greece, from 27 to 28 May 2025 for our 1st General Assembly Meeting. Colleagues from all our 14 partner organizations came together to reconnect, share their progress so far and agree on our next steps to advance towards our goal: transforming the construction industry by harnessing emerging technologies to accelerate the twin transitions of green sustainability and digital transformation.
Over the two days of the meeting, we held focused discussions on several key topics, including: the development of our robots, the creation and management of datasets, innovative demolition techniques, assessment of deconstruction potential, and progress at our demonstration sites. We also shared our main milestones and challenges since we started working together almost a year ago, reviewed the tasks we are currently focused on and agreed on our next steps to continue contributing to improving the European construction sector.
Our latest highlights
Some of our recent and most outstanding achievements include:
Technical Progress & Objectives: The Oliwall robot has been designed to ensure it can operate reliably in complex and dynamic construction elements for pre-deconstruction analysis. A critical aspect of the design process was the selection and integration of sensors that ensure accurate environmental perception. The next step is to enhance the accuracy.
Conference and Exhibitions: Our consortium has represented DISCOVER at a variety of high-profile international events—from Hong Kong to Brussels and Barcelona—ensuring strong visibility and engagement. Key appearances include:
- BUILDING THE FUTURE: EU / US Perspectives on Innovation, Technology Deployment, Circular Construction and Sustainable Energy
- The Sixth International Conference on Civil and Building Engineering Informatics (ICCBEI 2025)
- MWC Barcelona 2025
- European Robotics Forum 2025
Collaboration with other EU-funded projects: We joined forces with our sister projects, SUM4Re, MOBICCON-PRO and Concert to address the key challenges of the European construction sector.
Impact: Recognizing the importance of the project’s long-term legacy, we dedicated time to discussing our key exploitation results and evaluating the potential impact of our outcomes both during the project and beyond its completion.
Following two days of focused discussions, knowledge-sharing, and collaborative planning, we are energized and ready to accelerate the next phase of the DISCOVER project. As our Innovation Manager put it: “Let’s DISCOVER together!”
Many thanks to our colleagues at PEDMEDE who organized this meeting, for being such great hosts.
During the meeting, we also recorded interviews with some of our partners. Keep an eye on our channels—we’ll be sharing these insights in the coming weeks.
