We are pleased to share that TU Delft participated in SUM 2026 – the 9th Multidisciplinary Symposium on Circular Economy and Urban Mining – with a paper developed in the framework of the DISCOVER project.

The accepted paper, titled “AI-driven multi-sensor material identification in construction and demolition using a robotic drilling platform”, was presented by Dr. Mohanad Abukmeil and showcases TU Delft’s research on the use of artificial intelligence, robotics and multi-sensor technologies to improve material identification in construction and demolition contexts.

Held in Procida, Naples, Italy, from 20 to 22 May 2026, SUM 2026 brought together 219 participants from 29 countries and featured 149 oral presentations, 16 workshops and 17 poster sessions, creating an international platform for exchange on circular economy, sustainable resource management and urban mining.

TU Delft’s contribution reflects DISCOVER’s ambition to advance intelligent, data-driven and autonomous solutions for pre-demolition inspection, material characterisation and circular deconstruction. By supporting more accurate identification of materials in end-of-life buildings, this work contributes to higher-value reuse, recycling and resource recovery across the construction sector.
