Our partner TECNALIA presented research related to the DISCOVER project at WASCON 2026 – the 12th International Conference on the Environmental and Technical Implications of Construction with Alternative Materials, held in Fukuoka, Japan.
The paper, titled “Multi-Sensor Data Fusion and AI for Material Identification in Digital Models for Selective Demolition”, was presented by David Garcia Estevez, David Ciro Sierra Garcia, and Maria Jose Lopez-Osa from Tecnalia.
The presentation highlighted how multi-sensor data fusion and Artificial Intelligence can support the identification of materials within digital models, contributing to more accurate and efficient planning for selective demolition. This approach is highly relevant to the objectives of DISCOVER, as it supports improved construction and demolition waste management, enhanced material recovery, and the transition towards more circular practices in the built environment.
By combining data from different sensing technologies with AI-based analysis, the research contributes to the development of digital tools that can help professionals better understand the material composition of buildings before demolition. This can facilitate decision-making, reduce waste, and support the reuse and recycling of valuable construction materials.
Tecnalia’s participation in WASCON 2026 further strengthens the international visibility of the DISCOVER project and demonstrates the project’s contribution to advancing innovative digital solutions for sustainable construction, selective demolition, and circular economy practices.
